Anchor Plates for Seawall Tie-backs
Products Used: Ductal®, Precast Concretes
Ductal was chosen to stabilize an aging sea wall in Isle de Reunion, France
Details:

Project Location: Isle de Reunion
Principal Company: INTRAFOR

6300 plates (400 x 400 mm x 80 mm/16" x 16" x 3"), for earth anchors.
The challenge: Stabilize an aging sea wall.

Faced with a deteriorating earth retaining wall on a sea coast which acted as a main supporting structure for a highway, the authorities sought to stabilize the existing precast wall panels. The solution was to drill and grout anchor rods into the soil, then stress the anchors against the anchor plates on the face of the seawall.

The Ductal anchor plates competed on cost with cast iron plates but also provided additional benefits to the owner. The plates were light and easily installed by hand. Injection ports were cast, facilitating the grout injection process and they did not require repairs or painting due to accidental abuse during installation.

Finally, supplementary savings of 18% over initial costs were realized on the maintenance of the structure due to the exceptional durability of Ductal and to the plates not requiring painting.
