DuraClime Warm Asphalt used in Calgary
Products Used: DuraClimeTM
DuraClime™ utilizes Warm Asphalt Mix (WAM) technology and is produced and compacted at significantly lower temperatures than traditional Hot Mix Asphalt while still offering a high quality mix with equivalent asphalt binder properties, mix characteristics, and performance.
Details:

Lafarge Calgary teamed with the City of Calgary and EBA Engineering Consultants Ltd. to construct the first Warm Asphalt Mix  (WAM) project in North America on July 29, 2005 in the newly constructed residential subdivision of Taravista, Phases 10 & 11.

The mix used Shell WAM Foam® technology and was produced and compacted at 110°C and 100°C, respectively, approximately 30% lower temperatures than traditional mixes.  A 33% reduction in burner fuel consumption in comparison with traditional mixes was recorded during the production of 2000 tonnes of mix.  The asphalt binder properties and mix characteristics during construction were equivalent to the traditional City of Calgary standard Hot Mix Asphalt.
