An aging dam built to retain the shore of the Rideau River above the Kingston Mill Locks was failing. There was an immediate risk of the dam letting go and flooding a neighboring subdivision, road and low land area, which would have caused significant damage to both businesses and the environment.
Lafarge acted quickly, designing new specifications for “Dam Reconstruction” granulars, and blending products on site. In total, 102,000 tonnes of aggregates, asphalt sand and dam rock were supplied for the project.
When the project was complete, additional fish spawning beds were created to enhance any beds that were disturbed during construction.
